“In every block of marble I see a statue as plain as though it stood before me, shaped and perfect in attitude and in action. I have only to hew away the rough walls that imprison the lovely apparition to reveal it to the other eyes as mine see it.” – Michelangelo
Sculpting was Michelangelo’s true love. When he saw a piece of marble he saw a statue; a figure, already inside. All he had to do was chisel away what wasn’t the statue. Finding our true self is like sculpting in this sense. When we become conscious of our conditioning is when we can make that choice to mindfully discard what is not ours. Have faith in yourself. Trust that inside all of us are beautiful beings waiting to emerge to say hello to the world.
